  • Moving pictures!

This is a quick test of the ship’s computer screens.  You can see where I have set all the screens to a magenta color to help me replace them in the compositing program.  The beauty of this workflow allows me to render all the way up to a 4K frame (that is, a super HD image of 4000 pixels!).  It’s taken me a bit to get to this point, but I am starting to see some real progress in the look of the cartoon.  Once the screens are done, I am ready to start animating!

  • Beautiful Earth time lapse from the ISS

Love the Hans Zimmer music as well…

  • Great little short film

This animated short has a great heart.

  • Knights of Sidonia

I just ran across this and wondered if anyone has any thoughts.  I love the mecha design callbacks to Macross-ish levels.  Let me know what you think!

  • Suzi Quazar: Grindhouse Style

I have been working on animating Suzi as a cartoon for some time now.  I’ve got a ton of test footage that I wanted to use for something, so here we are.  I will keep learning and refining, but for now, enjoy!

  • Very interesting

I don’t normally post trailers on here, but I love this take on Asimov’s 3 laws of robotics. I seem some very interesting parallels to our story 🙂

  • Deathracer!

I am totally loving this music.  I had no idea that 80’s synth was back and man, it is sweet!  I have this playing in the background while I am doing the prep work to being animating Issue 1.

  • Sunday Science: Lies!

The good people over at BuzzFeedPop put together a funny video that shows some of the literary license films take with science. You probably know most of these already, but it’s still a fun little video.

  • Inspirations: Jupiter 2

I was checking out the really cool Black Alpha facebook page, when I ran across this cool little video.

The Jupiter 2 Lost but not forgotten from william george on Vimeo.

Suzi’s DNA has firm roots in Lost in Space.
As a kid, this series was my favorite.
Shoot, I still watch it to this day.
The design of the Jupiter 2 was one that, to me, has withstood the test of time.
The clean lines are so elegant. They really took the idea of the flying saucer and ran with it.
This ship is a true sci-fi icon.  I will talk about more in depth in the future, but for now, I wanted to share this fun little video.

And check out Black Alpha, a cool new comic by Tom Rasch.  He is a huge classic sci-fi fan, and it shows in his work.
