  • Jessica Jones

I just wrapped up Jessica Jones on Netflix, and I liked it.  I never really followed many street level heroes as a kid, mainly sticking to Fantastic Four and Avengers.  So it’s been kind of a fun discovery of heroes I knew nothing about.  Jessica Jones is a fascinating character.  She’s a hard drinking, grouchy impatient PI who also has a very big heart under that gruff facade. The show is not for the young ones, as it pulls no punches in showing just how devastating super powers can be.  Jessica can lift a truck, but uses her wits and intellect as the first line of problem solving. I love the new spin on the classic detective noir style.  The show has some pretty dark moments, but it’s able to blend in some fun to help offset the carnage.  I am looking forward to where Netflix is heading, with all these characters setting up The Defenders team.  I wonder how Dr. Strange will fit in?  Time will tell, and I’ll be watching.

  • New Gallery is online!

lewaine angelThanks to the amazing Lewaine, we now have a gallery of all the Suzi art I work with, as well as desktop and mobile wallpapers.  I am working on a few cool new print and play elements for you guys.  I loved the giant sized comics back in my youth that would have things like puzzles, mazes and cutouts for you to use.  shazamstandupThis Captain Marvel stand up diorama was on the back cover of an old King Size Shazam! comic that was falling apart.  I was able to save the diorama and that gave me an idea.  I’ve created a few cool retro paper craft mini-projects that will be uploaded to the gallery this week!

  • Comics! Deep Dive Daredevils

This weekly webcomic has become one of my favorites.  The writing is fresh, fun and top notch and the art really captures that pulp adventure feel.  This is a fun read and I would love to see this animated!

  • Get Rickety Rickety ‘Recked, son!

I’m pretty stoked that Rick and Morty will be back in 2016.  This is one of the most subversive, brilliant and utterly insane sci-fi stories told.  It’s humor might be lost on some, but the story lines and plot concepts they introduce are amazing and surreal.  Mix in a dose of cynicism, edgy humor and a way of not taking yourself too seriously and you have the formula for one of my favorite shows.  It took me a bit to get used to the animation style, but the writing and rapid fire dialog just sells the show.

    Fun show, worth a look!

  • Very cool!

So Lewaine told me Saturday that Suzi had been mentioned online, and when we checked it out, we saw that Suzi had been selected as Webcomic of the day at best-webcomic.com.  I gotta say it was pretty cool to see so many people had voted for Suzi.  It’s hard to imagine that more than a few people stop by every week (and sometimes every day!), but almost 3 years later, here we are!

I encourage you to check out the other comic links in the side bar.  You can find some amazing stuff out there!

  • Happy 2nd Birthday!

Suzi turns 2 today.  It’s hard to believe we are already on issue 4!  We have come such a long way.  When Suzi was first created, she was a digital doodle, a cutout for testing lighting and style. She has grown into so much more, a fully realized character.  It’s been a wild ride so far, but the best is yet to come!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • Animation’s afoot!

I have been working evenings hammering out the workflow so that I can create a Suzi animated series.  I think I am finally on the right path, so I thought I would share this with you guys.  Please bear in mind, this was just a quick test of the basic blocking of the shot. The animation is far from polished, so that is why it looks so mechanical at this point. It’s also a very low resolution clip. But it looks great to me, seeing Suzi finally moving! This image is also over on the Google Plus page, so if you are a G+’er, add the page and I will add you back.

I also want to give a thanks to Logiciel Lumiere for making the tutorials that showed me how to do all this! If you have any interest in animation, you can check out his Youtube channel here for some great lessons.
